ConocoPhillips is a global, integrated
energy company based in the United States and active in 40 countries. ConocoPhillips
European Power, Ltd. was formed to develop and manage integrated power generation
projects in Europe, primarily developed at Downstream or Upstream ConocoPhillips
facilities. A natural extension of ConocoPhillips’ existing energy business,
ConocoPhillips European Power, Ltd. draws on the company’s expertise
as an energy provider and user, its extensive experience in the development
and operations of facilities supplying steam and power and its commitment
to the safe operations, and the safety of its employees and neighbours.
In the UK, ConocoPhillips European Power, Ltd has developed the Immingham
Combined Heat and Power (ICHP) plant, which is one of the greenest power stations
in the world generating 730 megawatts of electricity.
The development of ICHP has made a significant contribution to reducing CO2 emissions in the United Kingdom and is capable of savings of up to 3 million tonnes per year when compared to power produced from conventional coal fired power production, and separate production of heat.
The plant is fuelled by natural gas with
liquid fuel as backup. It produces electricity and creates steam, which is
used by the nearby Humber and Lindsey Refineries.
