EDF Energy is one of the largest energy companies in the UK, delivering energy to over a quarter of the UK’s population. We generate about 7% of the UK’s electricity demand and we are also one of the largest regulated and private network operators in the UK. We are one of the few vertically integrated companies, which means we manage energy from the moment it's harnessed; to the second it's used, with expertise in generation, distribution and supply.

EDF Energy is one of the leading developers of energy infrastructure solutions for both the public and private sector. We have also established a green fund to support small-scale renewable energy schemes and have invested over £90 million in increasing energy efficiency.

EDF Energy owns and operates a number of CHP plants including a flagship district heating scheme in a renovated sub-station in the heart of its local community – the Barkantine Estate in Tower Hamlets supplying heat and power to 540 homes and a leisure centre. In a joint venture with ATCO Power, through Thames Valley Power we operate and maintain the CHP plant that serves the cargo terminal at London’s Heathrow Airport. At London’s Imperial College, EDF Energy replaced old boiler equipment with a CHP plant, managing it under a 15 year contract which includes maintaining the private HV electricity network.

EDF Energy’s development of the Energy Services Company (ESCo) concept reflects our desire to develop a portfolio of diverse sustainable energy infrastructure solutions. With the right commercial, legal, regulatory, engineering and finance skills we have the ability to explore sustainable solutions, such as CHP schemes, smart metering and micro CHP.
Reflecting this desire, EDF Energy was named preferred bidder in March 2006 for a partnership with the London Climate Change Agency to tackle the effects of climate change by developing sustainable solutions to London’s energy needs. The partnership’s role is to develop sites across the capital where investment in sustainable energy technology could reduce carbon emissions – one of the key methods of delivery for this initiative will be CHP solutions.
