CHAPNET is the first European Thematic Network dedicated to long-term research and development on cogeneration. The project was launched in 2002 for a duration of 36 months. The keynote speech will be delivered by Mechtild Rothe, Member of the European Parliament and rapporteur for the Directive on the promotion of energy end-use efficiency and energy services. While the morning session will be dedicated to discussing European policy matters and visions - from emissions trading and liberalisation to energy end-use efficiency and eco-labelling - the afternoon session focuses on implementation strategies and real-life experiences (incl. with district cooling and renewable fuels).

Community Energy Programme Capital Grant Workshops


Now in its final year, the Community Energy programme is keen to ensure that those with potential community heating schemes take full advantage of the funding available. A series of Capital Grant workshops have been specifically designed to help you to move to the next stage of submitting a capital grant. These workshops are designed specifically to help you craft a capital application with the greatest chance of success. You will also have the opportunity to question the experts on their specific schemes and issues. These workshops will be held in London and Manchester on the following dates:

Bringing microCHP to market

Following on from the successful Domestic CHP seminars held annually for the past three years the SBGI and CHPA are once again organising a joint seminar, with the focus this year being on 'Bringing microCHP to market'. The seminar will be held at the CBI Conference Centre, London on Wednesday 7 July 2004. The seminar offers high profile speakers from product manufacturers, government & environmental agencies and the keynote speech will be given by Richard Ottaway MP, Shadow Secretary of State for the Environment. Renewable Heat Workshops
March/April 2004
A series of two invitation-only workshops will be held in Edinburgh and Nottingham. These workshops are organised by the CHPA with support from the DTI, EST, The Carbon Trust and EAGA Partnerships and are aimed at plant and equipment manufacturers, operators,ESCOs, Local Authorities and key organisations. CHP Quality Assurance certification for CHP schemes brings a number of financial benefits such as exemption from the Climate Change Levy, exception from Business Rating, and access to Enhanced Capital Allowances. This is one of four regional events hosted around the UK to give an update on the latest developments. There will be speakers from HM Customs & Excise and Ofgem to discuss the rules for CCL governing exempt supplies of electricity produced from CHP (the ‘LECs’ system). An update on the recent EU CHP Directive will also be given.

8th NHER (National Home Energy Rating) National Conference

Royal College of Physicians, London NW1 The energy efficiency industry is fast approaching a dramatic and fundamental transformation. In 2 years time, the implications of the EU Directive on the energy performance of buildings will be felt - with all buildings receiving a certificate of energy performance whenever they are constructed, sold or rented out. Throughout 2004 we will see plans confirmed to enable this to happen. In the domestic sector this is expected to happen via the Housing Bill and changes to the Building Regulations. In addition, there will be new Energy Efficiency Commitment and Warm Front schemes in 2005, both of which will be defined during 2004.The conference programme features speakers from a wide range of key industry bodies and government agencies.
