December 2002 : CHP Commitment Report
The CHPA have recently published a report undertaken by consultant's Campbell Carr looking at the prospects and costs associated with establishing a CHP Commitment, a mechanism outlined in the Utilities Act 2000. December 2002 : CHP questions tabled in the House of Commons

November 2002 : Advantica commissions first CompacGen units
Advantica have commissioned their first CompacGen machines in sheltered accomodation in Rochester, Kent. 23 October 2002 : WADE World Survey of Decentralised Energy 2002 / 2003
The first survey looking at global potential for decentralised energy generation and supply has been published today by the World Alliance for Decentralized Energy. The study, which estimates current global capacity for decentralised energy at around 7% also indentifies key barriers to further uptake as well as outlining the way forward and achievable targets. The Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme has produced a new guide to help with the formulation of potential district energy PPP/PFI projects. Drawing on the practical experience of the two schemes that are now up and running, this guide provides an outline of how to integrate potential projects with the PPP and PFI processes. September 2002 : States provide models for uptake of CHP
The American Council for an Energy Efficient Economy (ACEEE) has reviewed state activities with regards to CHP in a report, State Opportunities for Action: Review of Combined Heat and Power State Activities. This report outlines the examples of states that are actively stimulating the uptake of CHP, and how they may provide good models for others wishing to follow the same line.

17 September 2002 : The potential for community heating and CHP
"The Potential for Community Heating in the UK", a report under the Energy Efficiency Best Practice Programme was published by the Energy Saving Trust today with the aim of identifying areas within the UK that may benefit from the development of community heating schemes. 12 September 2002 : Ofgem call for action to reach CHP and Renewables targets
Ofgem today called for the distribution network operators to act in order that the UK Government may achieve its generation targets for renewables and CHP. This is recognition by Ofgem that regulations would need to be adjusted in the future to accomodate the challenges confronting renewables and CHP in an evolving market. 30 August 2002 : Slowdown in installation of CHP will impact Kyoto targets
A study commissioned by the paper industry and undertaken by ILEX has suggested that the Governments CHP target for 2010 will not be reached. Citing high gas prices and the New Electricity Trading Arrangements as the main contributing factors, the report suggests that this will have a detrimental effect on the overall UK emissions reduction targets. July 2002 : CHP installed at Gateshead art centre

15 May 2002 : Government launch CHP Strategy
The Environment Minister, Michael Meacher, today launched the Government's Draft CHP Strategy, that outlines how the commitment of 10GWe of CHP by 2010 will be met. The launch of the CHP Strategy is accompanied by a DEFRA press release.

24 April 2002 : Climate Change Levy Exemption information for CHP published
The Chancellor announced in his budget a week ago that CHP would now be fully exempt from the Climate Change Levy (CCL). Draft legislation for this has just been published in the Draft Finance Bill. The clause 'Exemption: Electricity Produced in Combined Heat and Power Schemes' can be seen on page 95, Volume 1 of the Finance Bill on the House of Commons website

17 April 2002 : CHPA welcomes full Climate Change Levy exemption
The CHPA welcomed the Chancellors Budget statement (section 7.12) on the full exemption of CHP from the Climate Change Levy as well as the new guidelines on Enhanced Capital Allowances.
