Today’s
Government Planning Policy Statement “puts district heating on the map
Every
council will have to consider planning local district heating schemes, following
today’s Planning Policy Statement Planning for a Low Carbon Future in
a Changing Climate, according to the CHPA (Combined Heat and Power Association).
The new Planning Policy Statement 1 from the Government was welcomed by the
CHPA as setting out a clear steer to local planning authorities to present
an evidence base for their local plan documents, which should include an assessment
of their area for decentralised energy, including district heating networks.

Government
cash reward for microCHP
Government today recognised the enormous potential of micro-combined heat
and power (microCHP) to cut carbon dioxide emissions from Britain's households,
providing support for the technology through its ‘Clean Energy Cashback
Scheme’2 (otherwise know as the Feed-in Tariff).

Government
tightens CHP requirement for new power stations
The merits of recovering waste heat from power stations have
been enshrined in new Government planning policy on the development of power
plants. The details, contained with the Department for Energy and Climate
Change (DECC) National Policy Statements (NPS), announced on Monday 9th November,
mark a step forward from the Government’s previous treatment of combined
heat and power.
