Vital Energi unveils Kings Cross energy centre

30 Oct 2012

Vital Energi is unveiling its state-of-the-art Kings Cross Energy Centre at a special event in November.

The sustainable energy specialist is providing tours of the Energy Centre - one of the largest and most significant community heating projects ever undertaken. It plans to highlight how the low carbon community energy scheme at Kings Cross can work for other developments across the country.

The Kings Cross development is Europe’s largest city centre regeneration scheme and one of the UK’s most significant and high profile developments. The £2 billion, 67-acre scheme even has its own postcode – N1C.

Vital Energi has designed and built a pioneering community energy system which will supply heat and power to the development’s eight million square foot of offices, shops, homes and a university and significantly contribute to the development’s target of halving its carbon emissions.

It worked in partnership on the project with the Kings Cross Energy Services Company (ESCo), Metropolitan Kings Cross Ltd (a joint venture between Argent and Metropolitan).

Vital Energi’s Kings Cross Energy Centre Event is on Thursday 22 November 2012 at the Granary Square Building on the Kings Cross site from 9.30am to 4pm.

Presentations will be given by key representatives from Vital Energi, Clare Hebbes Project Director at developer Argent and John Marsh Operations Director at utility and energy infrastructure company, Metropolitan. Tours of the energy centre and development site will be provided.

Ian Whitelock, joint Managing Director of Vital Energi, said: "Increasingly, developments of the scale and calibre of Kings Cross are realising the environmental and economic benefits of choosing a sustainable energy supply over traditional sources."

John Marsh, Director of Metropolitan Kings Cross, commented: "Vital Energi provides expertise and integrates into the greater team. Its employees are very professional and work well with our project manager and also the developer’s on site team."
