What we do

The CHPA has been at the forefront of promoting sustainable energy over five decades. This page outlines what the Association is working for and why.

Aim of the CHPA
The aim of the CHPA is to promote the wider use of integrated energy systems using combined heat and power and district heating. These approaches bring environmental, economic and social benefits by reducing carbon dioxide emissions, cutting energy costs for businesses and householders and helping to tackle fuel poverty.

Objectives
To achieve its aim, the CHPA works with its members, Government and others to:

  • Address barriers to the wider take-up of CHP and district heating
  • Ensure that CHP and district heating are supported by policy, regulation and market frameworks
  • Educate and inform Government, business and the wider community about the benefits available from the use of CHP and district heating

Activity and focus

The work of the CHPA includes:

  • Advocacy: the CHPA is at the forefront of influencing energy, planning and procurement policy
  • Raising awareness: through a programme of workshops, training, communications and production of historic and forecast sales data and market analysis for the sector
  • Promoting best practice and collaboration: working with local authorities, energy and planning consultants, energy services, legal and financial services, CHP manufacturers and energy utilities to bring the supply chain together
  • Enhancing and maintaining the reputation of the sector: working with its standards group to ensure progressive adoption of best practice within the industry

This is across a range of practical areas. A focus on energy is at the heart of the Association, but its work also covers a wide range of related issues and sectors. This includes the environment, the built environment, industry and commerce and the public sector. See our activity and our focus to learn more about the work of the CHPA.
